Non-custodial Parents and Grandparents of Durham have met every month and we are associated with NSPA and all the Golden Horseshoe teams.
As in most groups there is a dedicated small nucleus that is very dedicated and hard working. We have 300+ "members" but few come out on a regular basis. The quick fix is what 80 to 90 percent want and they want someone else to do it all for them.
It appears there is no consensus (across Canada) as to what to do to become effective. My impatience is obvious, solutions are available, specifically Federal political membership, but few if any agree.
In the Golden Horseshoe and across Canada, I see a lot of "small groups/one man bands" working very hard and achieving little for their hard work. Burnout is the most obvious reward as very few of us have the time or money to have our concerns addressed on a regular and professional basis.
Things like the ruling in Edmonton happen and few of us (who really care) even think about a response. We need an organization to be active and ready; politicians can be with proper cultivation. Today no person or group is willing or capable of handling this opportunity.
Personally, my abuse by the Divorce Industry is winding down (my daughter is 19 years of age); but my anger at the Divorce Industry is not. The Divorce Industry encourages laziness(welfare and legal aid) and abuse; our ex's are encouraged to get even at the expense of our children. They know going to court can be free, fun and the woman's chances of winning are greater than 90 percent. Meanwhile our children are the real losers. If one is not angered about that reality then are even less likely to be active for any of the many other reasons.
I can walk away from this journey; but do not because (statistically) "our" children have a fifty-fifty chance of going through the same challenges.
