On Wednesday, July 30, 1997, Mel Feit, executive director of The National Center For Men, appeared on CNN's TalkBack Live. The debating opponent was noted and vocal feminist lawyer Ceceil Weich. The subject was the huge judgment awarded to a man terminated from his job after being charged with sexual harassment -- for telling a joke that was on the Jerry Seinfeld show (something about a female body part that rhymes with "Doloris.")! It appears that the jurors wanted to send a statement that there cannot be equality in the workplace if a man knows that at anytime he can lose his job on an accusation of sexual harassment.

Well, they sent a message alright! I understand the award was $26 million. (The important point is simply that we take bad-faith accusations as seriously as we do the good-faith accusations.)

No child support after 18

The Thursday Oregonian Metro Section page F8 on 10/16/97 had an article on a mom appealing the no-child-support-after-age-18 ruling. Maya Blackmun gave me a very nice quote. Without after-18 child support, the custodial parent must maintain or promote a relationship between the child and the other parent, otherwise the non-custodial parent may not be in the picture at age 18. In other words, cooperation and relationships are fostered. It's the first time this issue was framed positively! Maya could be thanked: 1320 SW Broadway, Portland, 97201.

Also, the United Way often pressures people into "voluntarily" donating to their annual fall employer campaign. So spread the word please: If those people who "have" to donate because of boss or public pressure want to, they can check off the "specified giving" box and write in our group (National Center for Men, Oregon chapter), and 90% of the donation will go to us!! Please tell everyone you can -- it is relatively "free and easy" money. Just make sure to note the Oregon Chapter, since it has to be an Ore or Wash group. And it has to be during their fall employer campaign.

Mitch Kite on the Today show August 7, 1997
Subject: Visitation enforcement

Mitch’s ex wife took the kids to Denmark and left them there, refusing to disclose the location, so Mitch cannot contact or see the kids. She is defying the judges order, and is in jail on Contempt of Court. Who said we are not making progress?

The story ran on Thursday, August 7, 1997, on the Today Show, NBC. In return for not allowing Mel Feit, executive director of the National Center For Men, to accompany Mitch, Today Show host Matt Lauer will ask Mel to be on the Show in three weeks or so. Now if we can just convince Mitch to go on the show without Mel .... (or the visitation enforcement segment will be dropped!)

Fox news covering NCM support group

FOX News -- not CBS News -- did a spot on our New York Fathers’ Rights Support Group, which meets regularly near our national headquarters.

Mel Feit on Court TV re: visitation interference

On Monday, August 4, 1997, Mel Feit, executive director of The National Center For Men, appeared on Court TV’s "Cochran and Grace" Show, with Johnny Cochran of OJ Simpson fame.

The topic was visitation and interference thereof, and what should be done about it.

PLEASE SEND TO JIM ACTIVISM OPPORTUNITIES and brief information, from all over the country, and Jim will put it up in this report! Please include details on phone, fax, Internet and address. Thank-you!

THE NCM NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT, contributions of time, energy, money, and membership. We CANNOT do this without your support. Our children are going AWOL without two parents. Our marriages are failing because all issues have been framed as men versus women for 30 years, which is extremely divisive. A gender war hurts our children, and provides devastating role models. We must vigorously educate to protect our children and our children's right to two parents and a system that rewards cooperation, and our children's right to healthy role models. Everyone is getting hurt. PLEASE JOIN. Membership in the NCM is $60, $40, and $30 low income. Suggested donation for reading this report is $1 per report, $24 per year.
