WFEJ to be represented on Domestic Violence team

Responding to an invitation from Dane County Judge Daniel Moeser, Wisconsin Fathers for Equal Justice nominated a representative to participate in an April 5-7, 1995 conference on domestic violence.

Jim Novak, current WFEJ Vice President, will attend as part of a team from Dane County. Jim was selected because of his experience working with government committees and his ongoing service to WFEJ as consultant to those who call the ALL-DADS line for help.

The title of the conference, which will be presented twice for the convenience of those in the eastern and western counties of the state, is "Courts and Communities: Confronting Violence in the Family." Each county will be represented by a team of up to ten individuals, selected by the chief judge whose District includes that county. Those on each county team are to "represent agencies and interests concerned with domestic violence" and for Dane County will include judicial and public safety departments as well as Advocates for Battered Women and WFEJ.

Goals of the conference:

learn more about the dynamics of domestic violence and the effects community workers have on victims and perpetrators;
improve sills in developing and implementing effective measures to deal with victims and perpetrators;
identify which counties have Coordinated Community Response (CCR) task forces to assess how they can be made more effective and how task forces can be created where none exist.
assess how counties deal with victims and perpetrators.
