The Backlash! - July 1996
Things that make you go, "hmmm"
In this column, we pose a few questions and raise some issues. The purpose is to
put a slightly different spin on each than you may have seen before, and to promote
discussion. In fact, as you read this column, you may even decide you want to
write an article about one of them for The Backlash!
- According to a Washington (state) Citizen Action study, a family earning
less than $28,000 per year will pay an average of 17.1 percent of their income in
state and local taxes; those earning between $28,000 and $76,000 will pay an
average of 10.5 percent; and those with average incomes of $717,000 or more will
pay 3.9 percent.
- Amidst the brouhaha over Hillary’s er,..."conversations" with dead people,
why has no one mentioned former First Lady Nancy Reagan’s practice of
consulting an Astrologer on matters of State? No, I didn't vote for Clinton, I'm
certainly not about to vote for him now, but political grandstanding on irrelevant
issues is a waste of our time.
