Prayer for President Obama

Historic Presidency
I’m excited about tomorrow’s inauguration. No, I voted for the other guy and view Bush’s presidency as a good one on balance. But a black presidency is historic and, to state the obvious, worth celebrating.

In November when Senator McCain conceded I wrote President-elect Obama a congratulatory note. In it, I cautioned that all he had promised during the campaign will require more taxes on everybody, and I raised an old issue that dates back 30 years: Stealth Inflation.

Stealth Inflation
Stealth Inflation has robbed more than half of the middle class’s wealth. People who, today, are smack in the middle of the middle class would, 30 years ago, have been considered working poor. Reason: the federal government underreports the real rate of inflation.

Starting with President Carter, every administration has colluded in this lie.

I invited President-elect Obama to tell the American people about this and said, hopefully, that “he might turn out to be the man of change he claims to be.”

Brown shirted bullies
Then I discovered that Democrats of the progressivist‑liberal bent are sore winners: brown shirted bullies striking out from anonymous laptops at anybody who isn’t singing his praises.

I also discovered that many are only marginally literate. Yes, they can read and type but “grab and go” with little comprehension.

One complained that I was blaming Obama for things that happened 30 years ago, which is ridiculous. The illiterate brown shirt also claimed I know nothing of economics and should go back to writing about fathers’ issues.

Ironically, to the tiny little extent that I am known it’s for writing about gender issues, not fathers’ issues. But during the past 30 years I have written and know far more about economics, wellness and politics than fathers’ issues.

The Economy
About the economy: Within 16 months the nation will be in recovery. Could happen sooner, but it will recover within the next 16 months. However, from President Bush to President Obama, neither has done or is preparing to do what is necessary to stop the ever escalating boom-bust cycle.

Absent that, the “Obama Recovery” will be followed by another, even worse meltdown.

Extremist nut burgers
During the past 8 years, the illiterate brown shirted bullies spewing hate from their anonymous little laptops clearly demonstrated their hope that President Bush’s administration would utterly fail. To be fair, I know that some nut burgers on the right also want President Obama’s administration to utterly fail.

Both extremes are stupid.

My hope and prayer
Regardless of who the American President is, we should always hope that theirs will be the best and brightest that America has ever known.

This is my hope and prayer for President Obama. That he will be known not so much for being America’s first black president, as for being America’s best president.
