In this column I pose questions and raise issues. I don't always agree with the conclusion, implied or stated. The purpose is to put a slightly different spin on each item and to promote discussion.

- The Federal government argues Microsoft needs to be broken up because, among other things, during a televised speech while Steve Ballmer railed against the government's position Bill Gates demonstrated his arrogance by smirking. They just don't get it. They do not understand the mind of someone with Asperger Syndrome (AS). Gates wasn't smiling because he is arrogant, but because at a superficial level he was both entertained by and respected Ballmer's speechifying. Deeper than this, it was a "Bre'er Rabbit" grin - "Please don't throw me into the briar patch!" If the government leaves Microsoft intact, then Bill the man with AS will continue in comfortable control of his environment. But if the government breaks the company up into Baby Bills, then as the stock price of each new company soars Bill's already unimaginable wealth will grow even more. In short, no matter what the government does, Bill and Ballmer will win.
- Most of the people alleging there is an epidemic of rape in America are women, and none of those women have ever been kicked in the balls.
- Being kicked in the balls is something that can happen only to men, and it does happen to most men (perpetrated by both men and women), yet whereas the government has passed sex-specific legislation (VAWA) to protect women, it has not even considered passing sex-specific legislation to protect men.
- Rather than protest the HOV lanes by using them when we're not supposed to, which is illegal and only harms the protester, maybe we should all refuse to use them - a boycott - which defeats their purpose and harms those we protest more than it does us.
- One essential difference between (American) Liberalism and Conservatism is, Conservatives believe human nature is inherently unchangeable, while Liberals believe human nature can be improved. Put another way, Conservatives build on what is, while Liberals build on what can be. As usual, the truth - and most of the rest of us - lies somewhere in between.
