In this column I pose questions and raise issues. I don't always agree with the conclusion, implied or stated. The purpose is to put a slightly different spin on each item and to promote discussion.
- A friend who worked his way through college as a gigolo once told me the most important courtship rule men need to observe is, never make the second move.
- In the beginning was the word, then came the argument, and now it is time for the conversation.
- There's saying-politics and doing-politics, and a word for people who's saying-politics don't match their doing-politics.
- Pop feminists whipped women into a paranoid frenzy, and now point to that paranoia as proof men are monsters.
- Those who confuse affection with harassment might also confuse hate with love.
- Sex is not a war and it's supposed to be fun. Traditional societies recognize this and, even though their written rules can be strict, cater to it.
- Pop feminism is the result of a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Our blood, our sweat, their tears.
- Lovers who lie are not friends.
- I went to sleep one young night and awoke the next day old.
- From about 1990 to 1996, pop feminists engaged men's and fathers' rights advocates on the broadcast field of battle; by 1996, however, they found their opposition so articulate and well-informed that they could no longer stand the humiliation, and so the media withdrew equal access and, with few exceptions, returned to their former practice of giving ear only to pop feminist voices.
- In the U.S., the Left tends to denigrate individuals but respect groups (identity politics) while the Right tends to denigrate groups (politics) but respect individuals.
- As is becoming increasingly obvious from the reports on the sexual improprieties of female school teachers, adult women are no more immune to under age jocks than men are to under age Lolitas.
- Him: "When you turn 40, I'm trading you in for two 20's." Her: "That's nice, dear, but you're not wired for 220."
- Older "welfare mothers" will tell you they are on welfare, while younger women schooled in New Speak will tell you they are "employed" by the State as "home care providers."
- As George Gilder has frequently noted, nothing settles a man down faster than to have a family. When he has no such anchor, in most cases his behavior is focused more on today than tomorrow, long-term plans extend to next week if at all, and future goals fade into yesterday's dreams.
- Libertarians, Objectivists and many Conservatives argue a job is not a right, and at a fundamental level this makes sense - nobody has the right to leech off anybody else. However, citizens should have the reasonable expectation that in exchange for their support of the laws which permit employers to conduct business, employers will act in good faith to employ them. Employers who do not support their society's citizens have no right to expect the support of those citizens.
- After buying a new IBM computer several months ago directly from IBM, I've added a new word to my vocabulary: Craptiva. With a 475Mhz AMD chip, it's slower than my old Pentium Pro 150Mhz. With 3 times more RAM than my old PC, it has to be rebooted far more frequently. With extra keys in weird places on the keyboard where they get in the way, it makes typing slower. And the really sad thing is, the Lotus WordPro word processor that came with it has less basic functionality than my eight-year-old copy of Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0a. My new Sony Vaio, on the other hand, is a dream machine.
- Demanding China free Tibet is a lot like demanding Americans give America back to the Indians.
- As guys get older, the gals they look at don't get any younger; what enrages pop feminists is that they aren't getting any older, either.
- The justice system should be designed to provide the best justice to all that money can provide rather than catering to the most clever, talented or experienced counsel money can buy.
- The biggest bullies are not always the biggest.
- In the liberal paradigm, it's better to be passive-aggressive than aggressive.
- Cheerleading provides better overall training than football, basketball or any other competitive sport for a successful business career.
- When you tacitly assent to wrong-doing by your silence, who will stop wrong-doers?
- In the Sci-Fi series Prey, a new human species is bent on killing all homo sapiens. If history provides any clues, however, homo sapiens is far more likely to be the aggressor.
- How many extra millions of gallons of oil have we burned for the sake of the HOV lanes?
- Conservatives deal on the basis of cynical trust and reputation; liberals, on the basis of feelings and controls.
