In this column I pose questions and raise issues. I don't always agree with the conclusion, implied or stated. The purpose is to put a slightly different spin on each item and to promote discussion.
- Conservatives aver Pat Buchanan has left the fold because he advocates government intervention in the affairs of American corporations. What they ignore is that the corporation is, by definition, a government intervention. It is an artificial entity often possessing rights superior to those of the American people. Corporations exist by our leave, and when they leave the interests of the American people behind then there is nothing anti conservative about reigning them in or kicking them out.
- Not only are corporations a legal fiction, they are also "super-citizens." They have some major special legal rights, such as: when they commit a crime, they are never "put in jail", the managers of the corporations who commit the crimes are almost never put in jail, they get "fined" for any infractions...and then usually get off on appeal, they receive 3-4 time more "welfare" through tax breaks, credits, and plain old government handouts than people do, etc. - Scott Surbrook

- For her grief Anita Hill got a professorship and lucrative lecture fees; what about the guy who was accused of the bombing in the Olympics (and later found totally innocent)? How "damaged" was Anita Hill compared to him? How damaged compared to a man falsely accused of rape? Or a divorced father bereft of his children due to false accusations of child abuse? Or a man falsely accused of sexual harassment?
- Pop feminists liberated us from sexist male role models, like Roy Rogers, the Lensmen, Doc Savage, Tarzan and Tom Swift, and cleared the way for new role models like Rambo, Hulk Hogan, Arnold's blow-'em-away characters, and many other ultra macho models.
- There is no doubt racism persists in many institutions. Martin Luther King Jr. wisely knew that to overcome this he had to evoke the sense of fairness common among most white Americans, thereby enlisting their assistance and support. Stupidly, many present day pundits seem to prefer to evoke the resentment of most white Americans by blaming them for things they had nothing to do with. Rev. King would be very disappointed.
- At Woodstock 1999 there were several reported incidents of rape and sexual assault. In the bad old pre-pop feminist days when men were sexist but didn't know it, such events happened, they're just more common now thanks to all the progress made by pop feminists in liberating sons from their fathers and our more enlightened views on child rearing and discipline.
- Pluralism is about embracing the behaviors which express various cultures. In many cultures, however, lying, cheating and throwing garbage around are normal. Where do we draw the line, and who decides?
- Some racist pundits have brayed how soon white men will be in the minority as "people of color" will eventually predominate. What they ignore is that interracial marriage and breeding homogenize toward lighter (though not necessarily white) skin.
- Few from the right or left actually create the enterprises who give us work and prosperity; most come from the bold women and men in between.
- Children look. They look at each other, the world and you. This is normal human behavior. Pop feminists strive to keep men from looking at women. In fact, they aspire to kill the boy in the man.
- Pop feminists ignore that the most prevalent male icons derive from science fiction, and most of them are equalitarian in nature. From Doc Smith's Lensmen series to Robert Heinlein's Podkayne of Mars to L. Neil Smith's Probability Broach series, science fiction has done more to promote sexual equality than all the efforts of the pop feminist groups combined. Meanwhile, the pop feminists have done much to counter the equalitarian trend of science fiction by promoting vicious, mean, violent and rapacious images of men and masculinity.
- Pop feminists say men with ego problems have ego problems, but women with ego problems have low self-esteem caused by the misogynistic patriarchal male hegemony.
- If men who drive flashy cars have ego problems, then women who date and mate men who drive flashy cars have...?
- Eternity - a stinky perfume that never goes away but burns your nose forever.
- Does Vice President Al Gore believe his appearance is so important to get the female vote that he has to hide his balding pate with that silly comb over?
- In modern America, fame is fleeting but infamy is forever. We obsess over those whom we should forget thus making loathsome acts a more certain path to virtual immortality than heroism.
