Men balancing work and family
What’s it like balancing work and family? We want to hear your stories!
by Jim Levine, Director
The Fatherhood Project at the Families and Work Institute in New York City
In collaboration with Todd Pittinsky, a colleague from
Harvard Business School, I am completing a major study on making the workplace
more "father friendly." We are trying to understand what helps you - and what
hinders you - in succeeding at work while still being involved with your children,
spouse or partner, and/or caring for an aging parent. Here’s how you can
participate.
Personal stories
Tell us what challenges you have you encountered trying to succeed at work and at
home. How has your employer helped or hindered?
Company stories
Tell us about programs, policies, or informal arrangements at your company or at
other companies. What works? What doesn’t work? Why?
Suggestions
Tell us what changes need to be made -- in your workplace, home, or community -
- for you to feel successful in your work and family life.
Please either take a few minutes to send us your thoughts, or let us know how we
can contact you for a brief interview (e-mail or phone). All information will be
stored confidentially. We will conduct more in-depth interviews with fathers who
would like their stories told in a forthcoming book.
Feel free to send us any questions about the project. And please forward this
message to others you think might be interested, or let us know if there’s anybody
else you think we should contact. We look forward to hearing from you.
