Do Progressives Disrerspect Transsexuals?
By Rod Van Mechelen
2020 Olympia, WA -- In the 90s there were transsexuals. They took hormones, or wanted to; underwent cosmetic surgery, or wanted to; and took offense at being described as transgender.
I know this because as one of the first online publishers I once equated the two and got a deluge of email from angry transsexuals. They were men or women who felt trapped in a body with the wrong sex and were desperately trying to correct this by changing their body.
But then Progressives expropriated their cause under the umbrella of identity politics and replaced "transsexual" with "transgender" and made it, not about biology (which included in utero brain sexing), but about personality and choice or preference.
Setting aside the utter disdain and disrespect with which Progressives have treated transsexuals, this is yet another example of Progressives making of themselves useful idiots for the plutocrat-wannabe oligarchs.
If Ellen Page wants to change her name to Elliot (which to many of us immediately brings to mind Elliot Rodger, who shot and killed some of his classmates before killing himself), that's her business. Okay, Elliot it is.
If she is going to take hormones and get surgery, then she is a transsexual and she'll find out just how much easier women in American society have it than men.
But if she merely wants to get attention, as so many today do, by announcing that she identifies as a man, then she's just a narcissist.
In either case, it's of no consequence to me. Unless Progressives make it so by trying to force me to bend the knee to their agenda. In which case they have a problem, because I do not bend the knee to Progressives or their agenda.
George Orwell's novel, 1984, wasn't supposed to be an instruction manual, but Progressives certainly seem to be treating it as such.
